Bloomberg: Libya’s Energy Crisis Disrupts Oil Fields and Domestic Gas Flows

Bloomberg reported on Thursday that Libyan protesters briefly cut gas flows to power plants, causing a temporary shutdown of production at a major oil field before operations resumed, as the OPEC member continues to struggle with an electricity crisis.

According to Bloomberg, Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) said the brief halt at the El Feel oil field, which has a production capacity of 90,000 barrels per day, followed the shutdown of domestic gas flows at the Mellitah facility early Tuesday morning.

The agency noted that despite Libya holding Africa’s largest proven oil reserves, the country has experienced repeated disruptions to oil production and public services.
