Exclusive: Central Bank Tells Sada It Will Fully Lift Cash Withdrawal Restrictions Before the End of 2026
The Central Bank of Libya told our source that, as part of its liquidity provision plan, which has achieved significant success, and with cash continuing to be consistently available at most bank branches, alongside the expansion of electronic payment services, whose value exceeded LYD 900 billion in 2026, the Bank will work to fully lift cash withdrawal restrictions before the end of 2026.
The move aims to strengthen confidence in the banking sector and allow customers to deposit their money and withdraw it freely without restrictions, while introducing additional incentives for transactions through electronic payments.
The Central Bank added that the measure is also intended to put an end to market speculation between cash payments and cheques. It noted that substantial liquidity inflows are available to the Bank and are expected to continue regularly through the end of 2027.
