Exclusive: Al-Sharif Warns That Freezing Libyan Accounts at the US Federal Reserve Could Threaten Food and Medicine Imports and Put Pressure on the Dinar
Ali Al-Sharif, an economics professor at the University of Benghazi, told our source that if the US Federal Reserve were to freeze Libyan accounts, it could disrupt the financing of imports and the supply of essential goods, including food and medicine.
Al-Sharif added that difficulties in securing fuel supplies could lead to shortages, higher prices and mounting inflationary pressures.
He noted that the effects could also extend to the disruption of certain economic activities, higher transportation and production costs, and increased pressure on the Libyan dinar’s exchange rate. These developments could negatively affect citizens’ purchasing power and undermine economic and social stability.
