Al-Hadhiri: “Institutions That Do Not Respect Their Laws, Decisions, or Court Rulings… Simply a State Collapse”
Written by: Legal Expert in the Oil Sector, Othman Al-Hadhiri:
The act of the de facto government in ignoring a legislative authority decision that prohibits investment in the country’s oil wealth until a government is formed through free and fair elections constitutes a serious violation of constitutional legitimacy and a direct assault on the will of the people, as represented by parliament.
This behavior can only be interpreted as an overt political rebellion against the legislative authority, and an insistence on running state affairs based on the logic of force and the status quo, in blatant disregard of law, legislation, and the very concept of the state. When parliamentary decisions lose their enforcement value, we face a real collapse of the principle of separation of powers, turning constitutional institutions into mere empty facades.
Continuing to manage oil wealth outside the framework of legitimacy and national oversight constitutes a disguised looting of public resources, placing full political and legal responsibility on those involved for any harm to the country’s future, economy, and sovereignty. National wealth is not the property of a temporary government or imposed authority—it is an inherent right of the people and future generations.
Parliament’s silence over the failure to implement its decisions, or its inability to follow up, also places it under historical responsibility, as decisions have no value without constitutional instruments and genuine political will to defend them.
Thus, what is happening today is not merely a transient political crisis, but a dangerous trajectory that empties the state of its substance, undermines its sovereignty, and turns it into an exploited entity whose resources are managed without legitimacy or accountability. Continuing this reality will inevitably deepen divisions and erode the remaining trust between citizens and the state. It is a bleak scenario with dire consequences for everyone.
