Austrian Strabag demands Libya to pay more than 100 million euros for these reasons

The website Global Legal Chronicle reported on Sunday that the Austrian construction company Strabag won over Libya, as it ordered Libya to pay more than 100 million euros in compensation, costs and benefits to a company that stopped working due to the chaos in 2011.

The website added that the Austrian Strabag company invested with a Libyan company called “Al-Hani”, which was performing the main road and infrastructure works. But civil war broke out in Libya and the company was exposed to theft and damage, as the efforts of Al-Hani Company to demand the due payments and losses of force majeure were constantly hampered due to the coordinated actions of the various authorities of the state .

The website continued by saying that on September 30, 2021, the court judge rejected Libya’s attempt to invalidate the arbitration award as Libya amended its arguments in another attempt to challenge the arbitral award. However, on May 27, 2022 the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia confirmed the court’s decision, saying that the judgment was final.

Accordingly, the Court agreed with Strabag that the Court had in fact considered Libya’s arguments regarding the payments made and rejected Libya’s claim that the advances should be deducted from the amount granted to Strabag, according to the website.
