Our source has obtained documents revealing suspected corruption at the Customs Authority, involving the alleged use of funds designated for employees’ medical treatment to cover the costs of official travel.
According to the documents, a serious financial violation occurred at the Customs Authority, involving the charging of expenses for an official delegation to Saudi Arabia, amounting to more than 136,000 Libyan dinars, to the account of the Customs Social Welfare Fund, which is designated to provide medical care, treatment, and assistance to employees.
The documents state that the official delegation was authorized under Prime Minister’s Decision No. 337 of 2024 and had no connection to the Social Welfare Fund. Nevertheless, the Financial Administration reportedly forwarded the travel and accommodation invoices, through Rawah Travel Agency, to the fund for payment.
The documents further indicate that although the Director General of the Customs Authority and the members of the delegation had already received their full overnight allowance from the Ministry of Finance, in accordance with the law, the amounts charged to the Social Welfare Fund had not been reimbursed to the fund to date.
According to the documents, the Financial Administration pledged to return the amount to the fund once funding became available. However, despite the fund’s demands for the return of its money and for the payment of medical expenses owed to employees requiring treatment, not a single dinar has reportedly been returned.
