The Italian news agency Nova reported on Monday that Italy’s Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, inaugurated a seminar in Tripoli dedicated to bilateral relations between Italy and Libya.
He emphasized the depth of the partnership between the two countries and their desire to strengthen cooperation across various fields.
The ambassador stated that Rome maintains an “open and continuous dialogue with all relevant Libyan parties,” supporting the UN-facilitated process aimed at achieving “unified institutions increasingly capable of responding to the aspirations of the Libyan people.” He also highlighted the strong interest in the economic and energy sectors.
Alberini pointed out that Italy remains Libya’s main trading partner, with trade volume between the two countries reaching approximately €9 billion, driven by the energy sector but gradually diversifying. In this context, the presence of Eni represents “an example of a strong and long-term partnership,” with ongoing investments estimated at around $10 billion.
The ambassador also highlighted the growing interest of Italian companies, including small and medium-sized enterprises, in the Libyan market.
He added that Italy serves as an “ideal partner to support Libya in its reconstruction, infrastructure modernization, and economic diversification.”
