Libya is working to revive its aviation sector after years of decline by launching a new national airline, named “Unified Libyan Airlines”, during 2026.
Currently, the country has two state-owned carriers, Libyan Airlines and Afriqiyah Airways, and the new airline is expected to strengthen air connectivity by operating flights linking the capital, Tripoli, to several destinations across North Africa and the Middle East.
This initiative is part of Libya’s broader efforts to develop its aviation sector, which has been in decline for several years. The new CEO of Unified Libyan Airlines, Ziyad Farhoud, said in a statement: “I am excited to lead the launch of this new carrier dedicated to connecting Libya with the region and the world.”
The airline plans to build a fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft to support and operate its regional flights.
