Libyan banks block several cards on the Mastercard network… reasons and solutions

Amen Bank announced that it had detected unusual activities involving suspicious transactions linked to the use of foreign point-of-sale (POS) devices. These operations were identified by the anti–money laundering team at Mastercard.

Following the review and analysis conducted by the company, a precautionary measure was taken to block a limited number of cards belonging to several Libyan banks on the Mastercard network.

The bank confirmed that cardholders bear no legal responsibility for this measure, explaining that it is a technical precautionary step aimed at protecting the payment network and monitoring patterns of financial transactions.

The bank also stated that it has provided an alternative solution, allowing customers to issue international Visa cards through the bank’s kiosk machines, enabling them to continue withdrawing funds through foreign POS devices.
