Libyan Technology Organization Gains Membership in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) After More Than 5 Years

The Libyan Technology Organization announced a significant achievement and a major milestone in its journey, having obtained membership in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) after more than five years.

The organization stated that the ITU issued its official approval for its membership within the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) on April 13, 2026, from Geneva. This step represents formal recognition of the organization’s inclusion in one of the membership tracks within this sector.

The organization added that this acceptance reflects its presence within the international framework specialized in information and communication technologies. The International Telecommunication Union is a specialized agency of the United Nations in the field of digital technologies and telecommunications, comprising 194 member states and more than 1,000 companies, universities, research institutes, and international and regional organizations.

The ITU also provides a trusted global multi-stakeholder platform that brings together partners from the public and private sectors, as well as academia and international and regional organizations, to discuss key issues related to telecommunications and information technology. This enhances opportunities for cooperation, knowledge exchange, and engagement in specialized international tracks.

The organization emphasized that this institutional development represents an important milestone in its path, highlighting its growing presence in international forums focused on digital transformation and telecommunications. It also strengthens its role in building professional relationships, benefiting from global platforms, and contributing to technical and developmental issues of shared interest.

The Libyan Technology Organization extended its thanks and appreciation to all supporters, stakeholders, and the public, especially the General Authority for Communications and Informatics, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Civil Society Commission, its members, and everyone who contributed to reaching this important milestone.
