Middle East: Toumi Reveals Washington’s Intentions to Control Oil and Economic Institutions in Libya… Here Are the Details
The “Middle East” website revealed today, Saturday, citing Masoud Toumi, a researcher in foreign affairs, that Washington’s intentions are not noble. The United States seeks to unify Libyan institutions, but the goal is not to serve Libyan interests; rather, it is to control these institutions to achieve American objectives.
According to the website, Toumi stated that the United States has two main goals in Libya. First, ensuring influence over oil reserves, as Libya holds the second-largest proven oil reserves in Africa, estimated at around 48.4 billion barrels, placing it among the top ten countries worldwide in terms of reserves, according to OPEC.
Toumi added that most of the announced agreements between the United States and Libya focus on energy and oil.
He also pointed to an agreement announced last Tuesday between the Libyan oil and gas company “Zallaf” and the American company “KBR,” which will provide technical support and project management for the South Libya refinery project starting in February 2026.
Steve Gassen, Executive Vice President for Geographic Regions at the American oilfield services company SLB, said during the Libya Energy and Economy Summit 2026 in Tripoli that there are ongoing plans to implement advanced technology, artificial intelligence, and production optimization technologies in Libya this year to support the Libyan National Oil Corporation’s goal of increasing production to 1.6 million barrels per day by the end of the year, according to the website.
