Austrian company OMV, an international energy company engaged in oil and gas exploration and production, confirmed today, Thursday, a commercial oil discovery at the Isar well in the Sirte Basin, strengthening its growth strategy in the exploration and production sector in North Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company indicated that, following technical and economic evaluations, the Isar well was classified as commercially viable. Studies indicate that total recoverable resources amount to 45 million barrels of oil. OMV holds a 12% stake in the C 103 concession area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Austrian company added that Zueitina Oil Company will lead the field’s development. The field’s proximity to existing production and processing facilities is expected to enable rapid and cost-effective development and an early start to production. The discovery further strengthens OMV’s expansion activities in the exploration and production sector in North Africa and reinforces Libya’s position as an important energy hub in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company continued by stating that Libya is one of the strategically important countries within OMV’s core southern region in its exploration and production portfolio. North Africa plays an important role in the company’s growth strategy in this sector. The Austrian company has operated in Libya for nearly 50 years, making it one of Libya’s longest-standing international energy partners. According to the company, OMV resumed its exploration activities in Libya at the end of 2024 after a suspension lasting more than a decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
