Member of the House of Representatives Issam Al-Jahani confirmed that efforts are underway to mobilize members of parliament to hold a session next Tuesday. As of now, the tax remains in effect, and no decision has been issued by the parliament’s presidency to cancel it or halt its implementation.
For his part, media figure and economic affairs commentator Ahmed Al-Sanussi said: “At this moment, while the people are angry, officials in parliament, the government, and the Central Bank are competing to convince this angry public that they are not the party responsible for imposing the ‘tax’—a tax on a people who, throughout their lives, have only known grants, handouts, and subsidies.”
Al-Sanussi continued: “Amid this anger and the exchange of accusations, things are moving beneath the citizen unnoticed. Until this moment, the tax is still in place, and the dollar is still being sold to some at 6.3 dinars, while you—the angry citizen—are still buying the dollar at 11 dinars.”
