Exclusive: Afriqiyah Airways Still Burdened by Debt but Presses On, Says Chairman Ahmed Al-Amin

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afriqiyah Airways, Ahmed Al-Amin, stated exclusively to our source that the total debts owed by the former Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord amounted to 80 million dinars. He noted that the Government of National Unity allocated 57 million dinars to settle a large portion of these debts, expressing gratitude for these efforts.

Al-Amin added that the debts owed by the current Presidential Council do not exceed 10 million dinars.

He continued: “When we took over the board of directors, the company had only one aircraft. With God’s help and with the support of the Ministry of Transportation, seven aircraft returned home, which had been abroad since 2017.”

Al-Amin also mentioned the issuance of a decision to establish a dedicated maintenance center for Afriqiyah Airways, which will help reduce maintenance and ground service costs while creating new job opportunities for Libyan youth.

He concluded his statement by saying: “The company is still facing debt burdens, but it continues to operate despite obstruction and defamation attempts by parties and individuals whose files are already piled up at the Anti-Corruption Prosecution and oversight bodies.”
